Mary Ann was born in 1833 at Holbeach, Lincolnshire, to parents James and Ann Redding (nee Henson). She grew up in Crowland Common and worked as a Servant and on 16th May 1853 she married William Wilson at Crowland Parish Church. After the wedding they moved to Pinchbeck, Lincolnshire (where William was living prior to the marriage) and it was there that Mary Ann gave birth to their first child and daughter, Elizabeth in 1854. Soon after Elizabeth's birth they returned to live at Crowland in South Street. In 1860 they had a son, James, followed by Stephen (1866), and George (1869). Sadly, in 1870, James died aged just 9 years old. In 1873 they had a daughter, Mary Ann, followed by another son, James (1877) and Benjamin. By 1881 they had moved to West Street, Crowland. Mary Ann continued to live in Crowland after William's death in 1904, until she died on 29th November 1908, aged 76 years. She was buried at Crowland, next to William, on 3rd December. |
