The Stimson Ancestors

The surname Stimson simply means 'son of Stephen'. My Stimson ancestors came from Quadring, Lincolnshire, and moved to Helpston and then Peterborough, Northamptonshire during the late 19th century. They worked mostly as Farmers and Farm Bailifs.

Annie Stimson

Gt Gt Grandmother 1861 -

Anne (or Annie as she was known) was born on 8th July 1861 in Quadring, Lincolnshire, to parents Edward and Jane Stimson (nee Walker). She grew up in Quadring with her brothers John Henry and Frederick before moving to Helpston, Northamptonshire, by 1881. Before 1882 she had moved to Rogers Street, Peterborough (now Clarence Road), Northamptonshire where her future husband, John Northern, also lived. On 20th March 1882 she married John Northern at Peterborough Register Office. By 1883 they had moved to Boston, Lincolnshire where Anne gave birth to their first child and daughter, Nellie. Two years later they had moved to Narrow Bridge Street, Peterborough, where John worked as a labourer at a wood yard. It was whilst living there in 1885 that she gave birth to their second child, Rose Ada. In 1892 Olive Bessie was born, followed by John Henry and Elsie Mary.


Edward Stimson

Gt Gt Gt Grandfather 1829 - 1890

Edward was born in 1829 at Quadring, Lincolnshire to parents Joseph and Elizabeth Stimson (nee Salisbury). He grew up in Quadring and worked as a farmer like his father. On 25th June 1857 he married Jane Walker at Quadring Parish Church. In 1861 Jane gave birth to their daughter, Anne at which time Edward was working as a Publican in Quadring. Three years later Jane gave birth to their first son John Henry, followed by Frederick in 1870. Between 1870 and 1881 Edward and his family, as well as his father Joseph, moved to Helpston, Northamptonshire. Here he found employment as a Farmer's Bailiff. Edward died in 1890 aged 60 years


Joseph Stimson

Gt Gt Gt Gt Grandfather 1803 - 1886

Joseph was born in 1803 at Quadring, Lincolnshire, to parents Edward and Elizabeth Stimson (nee Cope). He worked as a Farmer and married Elizabeth Salisbury in 1825 at Donington, Lincolnshire. In 1828 she gave birth to their first child, Joseph, followed by Edward (1829), Sarah (1831) and Sarah Ann (1836). He and Elizabeth moved to Gosberton before the late 1870s, when Joseph worked as a Cottage Farmer. After Elizabeth's death he moved to Donington. Joseph died there on 30th August 1886 of Heart Disease and Dropsy, aged 83 years.
